Perspectiva para 2008 | A View to 2008

Vem aí um novo ano em que a espiral de evolução dos novos media vai ser ainda mais vertiginosa. Terry Heaton escreveu um artigo sobre o que se pode esperar e fazer no próximo ano, e sobre o que será a ordem natural das coisas.

A new year is coming where the evolutional spiral for the new media will become even more dizzy. Terry Heaton wrote an article about what next year will bring and what can be done, and what will be the natural order of things.

Alguma ideias chave: -a web não é uma extensão dos media mas um media em si mesmo; -a web não é um mass media,e cada página é um pixel, este blog é um pixel, o Google é um pixel; -ser gratuito não é um modelo de negócio, é uma estratégia; -as notícias são agora um processo e não um produto acabado; -é o fim dos conteúdos estáticos; E uma nota pessoal Para este ano espero sinceramente assistir à abertura das empresas portuguesas às novas tecnologias, e a uma maior percepção do que a informação via internet traz de valioso à reputação e eficácia dos media tradicionais. Espero cumprir os objectivos que tracei e, acima de tudo, espero ter uma ponta de sorte. Há um comboio em movimento e eu já lá estou dentro. E para todos os meus leitores, um feliz 2008.

Some key thoughts: -the web is not a media extension but a media in itself; -the Web dismantles mass, and each website is a pixel,this blog is a pixel, Google is a pixel. -free is not a business model, it’s a strategy; -news today are a process and not a finished product; -the age of static content is over; And on a personal note For this year i sincerely hope to witness to an opening of the portuguese companies to the new technologies, and to a broader perception that the information via internet brings added value to the reputation and effectiveness of the traditional media. I hope to accomplish the goals i set to myself, and, above all, i hope to have a struck of luck. There’s a train already moving, and i’m on it.   And for all my readers, a happy 2008

Este vídeo mostra muito claramente e de uma forma muito interessante o que é um blog e qual é a importância deste fenómeno. Visto no DotSub.com, um site de alojamento de vídeos que permite a criação de legendas por parte dos utilizadores. Mas como não é fácil inserir os vídeos no WordPress, recorri ao YouTube. Mas é uma funcionalidade a ter em conta.

This video depicts clearly and in a visually interesting way what is a blog and why it is so important about it. Seen at DotSub.com, a video hosting website that allows users to translate and subtitle the hosted videos. But since it wasn’t that easy to embed the video in WordPress, i had to get it from YouTube. But this is a feature that can be really useful and a must for all video hosting websites.

Novo Design | New Design

Decidi alterar o aspecto d’O Lago para um template mais claro e que não me desarrumasse muito os conteúdos anteriores. Entre as novidades estão deviam estar os Enhanced Feeds do WordPress. Espero que gostem.

Soundslides creator Joe Weiss rocks us again! writes Richard Koci Hernandez as he points to a new service from Joe Weiss that offers a dead-easy way to create chaptered Soundslides slide shows. Expect to see this on a lot of media sites before too many more weeks have past.

And the the final piece of the four is for inspiration: Richard Koci Hernandez’s stunning personal website, which brings together his photography and personal video projects. Richard is not just a mainstay of the multimedia journalism education-through-the-web community, he is a talented, talented image maker and storyteller. I am in awe.”

Manual de Jornalismo Online em Português

O Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas, na Universidade do Texas, lançou uma tradução em português do livro “Journalism 2.0 How to Survive and Thrive – A digital literacy guide for the information age”, escrito pelo jornalista Mark Briggs.

Mark Briggs descreve o livro como um manual prático, que explica as especifidades da internet e as várias formas de se fazer jornalismo digital, indo dos blogs ao podcasting, desde a recolha do material à sua edição e publicação online.

What do they say it is?

“Thisismereporting.com was set up to combat all of the one sided journalism we are currently exposed to. You never hear the real story from real people, you never hear about anything good, you never see reports about ordinary people and their day to day lives.So here it is, show us your world.”

What do I say it is?

A place for video footage that may be considered as newsworthy. Most cases, it’s just a collection of extreme situations that were caught on tape by common citizens.

What’s great about it?

Not much, they just follow an equation to which all videos must agree: videos and citizens plus event equals news. Not really, though. But the main idea is great, turning common citizens into ENGs (Electronic News Gatherers, aka video reporters).

What could be better?

The design could be a whole lot better and that camera on the logo is totally wrong, it should be a cell phone. There is no context for most of the videos. This isn’t journalism, it’s voyeurism. The videos can´t be easily embedded, so the website’s purpose stays within it’s bounds, and dies there. And so does the intention of reporting anything, because the drama is there, but not the plot, so they fail completely. Besides, citizen videos that are used in breaking news reports go all to the big media outlets, not here.

How is it going to make money?

Is it? Ok, they have some ads, and it doesn’t look like they’re spending a lot of money, but survival is going to be hard in my opinion, unless they change something. Or maybe they’re just hoping to be absorbed by a major news corp.

Should I pay it any attention?

Yes, if you want to see some dramatic footage and be happy with just that.

“À Noite o Céu é Diferente” é uma exposição multimédia nascida da parceria entre o Tubo d’Ensaio e um grupo de professores do ensino básico de algumas escolas da Figueira da Foz. O resultado foi a criação de um universo mágico saído da imaginação de 480 crianças. Poderão visitar este céu diferente até 31 de Dezembro, entre as 17 e as 20 horas de segunda à quinta, e das 17 às 22 horas às sextas, sábados e domingos, no Ponto de Encontro por baixo da Esplanada Silva Guimarães.
