Koci está de volta…outra vez | Koci’s back…again

Vodpod videos no longer available.

A ver.

At first i thought it was strange to have new blog posts from Multimedia Shooter in my Google Reader, but after reading other people i understood that one of the dearest bloggers of the new media blogosphere was back.

Richard Koci Hernandez dealt with some problems over his blog a few months ago, gave up, came back and gave up again. But it seems it wasn’t for good. And that ‘s great.

From his holidays he brought a movie shot with a digital camera and a DIY 35mm lens adapter. Go check it out.

Multimedia Shooter: De regresso | Back from the dead

Good news for all the Multimedia Shooter followers out there: Richard Koci Hernandezannounced the blog’s comeback, after being attacked by hackers.

He even knows who did it, and if you ask me, i’d say a bit of slapping around wouldn’t be that bad. This is also a chance to think on how protected our blogs are.

Anyway, welcome back.

I really didn’t know how much the site meant to people. It’s one of the reasons I’m going to buy a case of Red Bull and spend the next week rebuilding. This has been a humbling experience. All I ever wanted to do was share and help if I could. I’m glad the blog did that for some of you.

RIP Multimedia Shooter

I was completely surprised with this: Richard Koci Hernandez had to shutdown his blog MultimediaShooter.com after a series of attacks performed by a hacker. Years dedicated to the sharing of multimedia knowledge that now are gone down the drain, affecting us all that referenced him in our own blogs. To Richard i just can express my solidarity and gratitude for all that i could learn from his posts. Now we have to keep track on our own.

RIP

I write this with a very heavy heart:

I am sorry to report that this website is down for the count. The site was recently hacked several

times this weekend and severe damage was done. I do not have the time or resources at this time to

continue. I wish you all the best. I only wish this hadn’t happened.

[To the ‘hacker’ I hope it makes you happy to destroy something that people put their

heart and soul into for years, for the sole purpose of learning and creating a small community

on the web. Just to have you destroy it for no reason. You win. There is a special place in hell for you.]

To those of you who supported the site over the years, THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

I don’t know what more to say, except, remember, it’s all about the STORY, not the TOOLS.

-aumentar o período de vida dos vídeos: tenho que concordar, ao contrário do texto noticioso, a fotografia e o video duram muito para além do acontecimento;

A difference in opinions between Colin Mulvany and Richard Koci Hernandez over the future of video in newspapers, led to the presentation of some practical solutions by Mulvany. Here are some of the ones i found most important, duly noted by me:

-increase video lifespan: i have to agree on this, in opposition to the news text, pictures and video can last way beyond the natural life of the event;

-propagate video: as a blogger i can tell you that a video that can be embbedable in a post makes it far more more interesting than if it had no image at all, so it should be possible to put them outside the source site. Besides , it’s another way to have an external link to the newspaper (free advertising??!!).

-train train train: to which i add- learn learn learn. Watch the others, watch your own, then go to the next one. Rule the basic rules and then use them in favour of the subject , there’s the common mistake to make video works with our “vision”. Well, to have a personal brand is great, but it can’t be good when it gets in the way of an effective job and a story well told.

-The road is long: at the speed that the markets and the means are developing, it is easy to mistankely believe that the results will come as fast. One day at a time, please, take the most out of your gear and the people who use it, listen to your colleagues, especially if they don´t know a thing about video – if they work in a newspaper they must know about the news, and if they know nothing about video they’re just like the average user.

In short, be realistic, positive, and don’t forget : it’s a job.
