David Sasaki escreveu um post sobre as três principais barreiras que impedem  as comunidades  online de chegar ao resto do mundo : a censura, a infoexclusão,  e a língua.

David Sasaki wrote a post about the three major obstacles that keep online communities from reaching out  to the rest of the world : censorship, lack of digital inclusion, and language.

Imagine your own blogging community for just a second. Go ahead and put yourself at the center of your personal blogosphere – those you read and those who read you on a regular basis. What does it look like? Where do they live? What languages do they speak? What are their ethnicities, interests, political leanings, sexual orientations? What religions do they practice, or for that matter, not practice?

Now, imagine that community, that sphere of burning blogstars, expanding like the universe itself. Imagine that it encompasses your entire city, and keeps expanding to include every citizen of your country, and, eventually, each and every of the more than 6.5 billion human beings just like you and me.

What is preventing this expansion from taking place?

The explosion of the Internet and its availability on various types of devices has established a new reality in the magazine industry. In order to survive a rapidly changing media landscape, magazine publishers must recognize one critical difference between print and the Internet: The Web is a dynamic medium that fosters direct dialogue with an audience; print is a static monologue.

In today’s marketplace, nearly all publishers have carved out an online presence for their print titles. In some cases, skillful use of the Internet has leveled the playing field, to a degree, between small and large titles. However, an ill-planned and executed online strategy can just as easily have disastrous results.

Given this new landscape, FOLIO: wanted to explore the myriad pitfalls and opportunities of digital publishing. So in April and May, we undertook a major research initiative, with both empirical and anecdotal reporting, to establish a baseline for where the industry is now with its e-media efforts, and where it expects to be in the next 12-to-18 months.
