Os conteúdos gerados por utilizador estão a ganhar terreno, um passo de cada vez. Se não acreditam, vejam estes quatro links:

– a JPG e a Everywhere são duas revistas com conteúdos criados por milhares de utilizadores e geridos por 19 pessoas. Para além de uma maior cobertura sobre os assuntos que tratam (especialmente na Everywhere, que fala de viagens), estes dois projectos conseguiram criar uma comunidade activa e satisfeita;

Iceberg é uma aplicação que pretende aproximar a programação do utilizador comum, para que certas construções deixem de ser exclusivas do mundo fechado dos hard coders;

-ainda sobre UGC, a BBC apresentou a sua política de programação onde declara um aumento na utilização de contribuições do público;

-e por fim, o YouTube parece estar a roubar tempo à televisão, e ganhando pontos a todas as outras alternativas para se ver video;

JPG and Everywhere are two magazines of user generated contents created by thousands of people and managed by a staff of 19. Besides having a wider coverage on their topic subjects (specially Everywhere, that talks about travelling), these two projects have managed to create active and satisfied communities;

Iceberg is an application that intends to bring programming and the common user closer, so that some things are no longer exclusive of the hard coder world;

– still over UGC, BBC presented their Statements of Programme Policy , where declare an increase in users contribution;

-and finally, YouTube seems to be stealing time to TV, and taking points to all of the other alternatives for watching video;

Everywhere and JPG magazines are two relatively new magazines produced by just 19 staffers — and thousands of users. A new model for magazines?

“More publications of this sort could be on the way,” the San Fransisco Chronicle reports. “The 8020 team – which predicts its less-than-a-year-old publications will make money by next year – is looking into producing similar titles for foodies and car enthusiasts.”

There was a time when only technically-savvy people knew how to create content and publish it to the internet, but the rise of easy-to-use blogging and CMS systems changed that. Today, everyone can be a publisher. Now, Iceberg wants to bring that same democratization to programming. In fact, that’s their vision for Web 3.0 – the web where everyone is a programmer.

Iceberg Launches, Now Everyone Can Program

The BBC’s new Statements of Programme Policy has a revealing snippet about the attitudes of TV to user-generated content.

On page 57 of this lengthy document (PDF), the broadcaster says:

We will augment our news coverage with video, still images and messages submitted by viewers, where appropriate, in order to offer first-hand accounts and a wide range of views. We aim to make it as simple as possible for audiences to make these contributions and create one seamless BBC News proposition across all platforms.

This suggests that the BBC News overall approach is less about involving audiences in a way that lets them influence the news agenda.

How the BBC views user-generated content

Ipsos MediaCT found that even though TV is still the dominant method of video consumption among those who have streamed a video online, that dominance is slipping. TV was down to 70% of video watching time from 75% last year, while “personal computer” jumped from 11% in 2007 to 19% this year. That was even more pronounced among teens. In the 12-17 age group, PC watching was 24%, while TV was down to 55% of screen time.

Though the shift toward the PC for video watching is more pronounced among the younger set, Ipsos said the trend was “relatively consistent across all age groups and genders.” Even though the study only looked at the viewing habits of those who have streamed or downloaded video content, previous Ipsos MediaCT studies have found that is a rapidly growing segment of the population.
